what about me?

this blog is intended to be a mixture of many things, just in case it's helpful or as fascinating for whoever is as crazy or obsessive about the whatever of today as I am.

a musician with a bit of a nonconformist streak (and expectedly spiteful), I'm especially interested in novel/weird/curious gadgetry, computer software, systems for handling personal inforrmation and daily life (probably because adhd), and generally trying to optimize when I really should be simplifying (also probably because adhd).

I work as a full-time music editor at a non-profit, a rare and strange gig to be salaried for, which entails a combination of project management, process coordination, data stewardship, proofreading, marketing, and occasionally some actual honest engraving work, which is all now done in Dorico, of which I've been a happy user since v1 - before slash notation was even a real feature!

as for what I actually love to do, I play saxophone, compose, arrange, improvise, and produce music. I also dabble in photography, and occasionally edit videos. find links here… eventually.

knowing bits about lots, especially technology and its (imo) many vices, has made me passionate about digital privacy and security for the average layperson, and increasingly rejective of modern convenience in favor of basic, offline, old-school, or analog tools - things like self-hosted servers, plaintext files, pedal-power bicycles, and good ol' pen(cil) and paper. recently, I've converted to the gospel of Emacs and org-mode.
